Mesmerized

That feeling. The one we’ve all had before. Feeling unimportant. Unnoticed. Invisible. You want it to change. All it takes is that little push to be a little bolder. Just a little more courage. You know it’s right within your reach and every time you think about it, you feel like you might never get with anyone.

But you never do it.

You have pages full of quirky things that they do at school and the brief moments that you make eye contact. Sometimes, the perfect song lyrics run through your head as you look at them and you think it must be true. Your parents might even call it an obsession, but you know otherwise. it’s love. Not that you’d ever say that out loud.

Them when you sleep, it’s like everything falls into place. They do notice. They fall for you. You live happily ever after. And for those hours, the ones that only feel like minutes, you’re at peace. All of the warm fuzzies flee, though. You’re filled with the same cold numbness when you wake up.

Then, it’s just another day of school.

But maybe today... Just maybe... You’ll spark a friendship that could turn into something more.

It was just a regular day for Solomon. He sat at his normal seat in English and wrote carefully in his journal, going off a prompt they had all be given. When he finished, he closed the journal and set it on the edge of his desk, a small smile on his face. Today felt like it'd be a good day. The rest of the class was still writing, so he went back to looking through his entry, his teeth working on the ring that went through his tongue.

Ophelia walked down the hall, a peculiar spring in her step. Maybe it was because it was the first day to school. Well, her first day of school. September was just ending and she was excited for the leaves to changed. Maybe this would be a fresh start. That's what she was looking for after the drama last year.

Ebony couldn't believe it. Only a month into school and she already had a detention. Okay, maybe smoking on school grounds was bad, but a detention, really? Well, it could have been worse. She could have been suspended. She spun a strand of blonde hair around her finger, careful not to tangle it with any of the other colors and waited for detention to start.

Cyrus pulled up to school late, pulling up his black SUV next to a little white Subaru with a chuckle. He got out of the car and walked inside, holding the door on for a couple girls, then walked in, to sign himself in. He loitered by the lockers for a while though, not wanting to go straight to class.

Oz walked into school late, her hair in a messy bun and no makeup on. She was running late and couldn't waste time on how she looked. She was practically running in the halls, slipping past the hall moneraters and trying to sneak over to her locker. She gave a couple sweet smiles to a few who said high to her in the halls, but didn't stop to chat.


Dalia sat in her math class and tapped her pencil against her graph paper. This was such a slow class. She sighed and raised her hand. "can I go to the bathroom?" the teacher kidded and wrote out a pass for her. She took the square sheet of paper between her two fingers and walked out of the room. She saw Cyrus in the hall and walked over to him. "hey you. Skipping?"

Zero walked into the school and stood by his locker. He had a free period now, and decided that it would be best to just wonder the halls instead of doing something productive. It's not that he would be noticed missing anyway. Even as a senior no one really knew he was ere. He sighed and walked down to the band room and slipped in silently. No class was being held and the piano was empty. He sat down and started playing softly.

Kyle stood under the bleachers and looked out to the football field. Here he was, waiting for his girl. Again. He sighed and started walking off. She probably wasn't showing. Again. He walked with his hands in his pockets. As he walked inside he passed the southern stairwell. Terence she was...making out with the captain of the football team. Apparently having a boyfriend ON the football team wasn't enough. She needed the cheat on him with the captain. He shook his head and walked off.

Marcy walked the halls, trying to find the band room. She couldn't wait to get started, and even though she was reeeeaally early she didn't mind. She saw a sign pointing her in the right direction and smiled, taking a left turn. She stopped short when coming by the room, hearing piano music emitting from the door. She opened the door and stepped in, sitting quietly and closing her eyes to hear the boy play his song.

Nessa sat in English class, not even really listening to the teacher and drumming her fingers on the desk. She scribbled in her journal, but it was mostly just little doodles of random objects. She glanced at the board once in a while and jotted down some notes, then went back to drawing an octopus.

Jake walked calmly, holding his hall pass and making his way slowly to the bathroom. He didn't really care if he was late coming back to class, he probably wouldn't miss much. He turned a corner and almost walked right into Ophelia. "Oh...sorry. Didn't see you there."

David nodded to people as he passed by them, and entered Math class, late as usual. He smirked as the teacher gave him a tardy and sat down at the desk, gazing out the window and slipping into another daydream.

Cyrus shook his head, looking at her blankly. Something seemed to draw the life from his light eyes as he started forward. Typically, he was happy, but not today. More... Annoyed or angry than usual. He shoved his hands in his pockets and looked at her.

Ophelia jumped back, a small grin forming on her lips. "No, it's fine! I wasn't really watching my step, either." She stuck out her hand. "I'm Ophelia, by the way." Her first day and she was almost getting trampled on. God thing he was kinda cute.

Dalia met his eyes and chuckled. "C'mon Cyrus. lighten up a bit. What could possibly be wrong on this 'wonderful' monday(or whatever day it is)." Her tone was sarcastic, yet still light. She was attempting to lighten his mood, but probably failing. She sighed and played with her rose ring a bit and looked at him.

Zero played somewhat loud, attempting to hide the soft hums that came with the songs he played. he was never confident in his voice, but he was in his music. It seemed to be the only thing that he felt like acomplished something in.

Ebony was sick of detention. She asked for a hall pass for the bathroom and ended up tearing it into bits before she had reached the end of the hall. There was no way she was going to go back to that classroom. Instead, she cut through the gym and snuck outside, sitting on the bleachers that faced the football field. She fumbled with her pockets, not producing a single cigarette. "Fuck..." she muttered softly, looking down. Instead, she twirled her lighter between her fingers, then dropped it. She groaned and hopped down as it slipped underneath. She started under the bleachers, stopping as she saw a boy.

Cyrus groaned and looked down at her. "Would ya stop bugging me if I went with you?" He asked her? He never actually had a problem with her, but he always thought it was kinda fun to give her a hard time. In fact, something no one could find out, was that he thought she was actually... Kinda... Cute. But again, NO ONE could find out. Like, ever.

Kyle noticed the lighter fall and picked it up off the ground. He turned to see Ebony standing behind him. He took a few steps and passed it over to her. "you dropped this." he said blatently. "Ebony, right?"

"I wasnt asking you to go anywhere, silly..." Dalia laughed lightly, trying to not sure how hurt she was from the tone of his voice. "I was only asking if you were skipping and if anything was wrong...." She bit her lip and looked away from him down the hall. She had the small slip of paper in between her two fingers that gave her permission to wander these halls wherever she pleased without getting into trouble. It wasnt like she planned to go back to her class, or if she would actually participate if she did go back.
